I am very excited that several Clay County educators have begun our third and final podcasting course, called "Podcasting in Education (Advanced)." They have successfully completed the first two courses in the trilogy, and they are almost ready to become our first ever "Certified Clay County Podcasters." Congratulations to them on their hard work and on the great podcasts and corresponding blogs they have created. These podcasts and blogs will truly enhance their work as classroom teachers, media specialists, technology specialists, and instructional technology teachers. Their students will be the benefactors as they use their new knowledge and skill to enhance their curriculums and classrooms with this technology.
In this final podcasting course, the participants will learn how to enhance their podcasts with video still images and/or video clips. They will also learn about aggregators and how to automatically keep up with all the interesting podcasts to which they are subscribed. This advanced-level course will help them prepare the required paperwork and corresponding podcast they will present to their school Curriculum Council as a "Podcast Approval Packet," for their formal approval.
I look forward to hearing the podcasts that will be generated as a result of this training, and I am anxious to see what ways these educators will incorporate these new technologies to enhance the education of their students!
This blog is for everyone who wants to stay up-to-date with the technology in the SDCC (School District of Clay County, Florida). It will spotlight the technology we are currently using, as well as those new innovations that are on our horizon.

What is a vodcast?
What is a vodcast? It is a video enhanced podcast. Most podcasts are audio-based, but you can also create video-based podcasts. I have attached a vodcast that has been enhanced with video still images. It was created with Windows Movie Maker. Windows Movie Maker software comes installed on a PC with the Windows XP (or higher) operating system. You can also create vodcasts that incorporate video clips. Another program that can be used to create vodcasts is iMovie. It is only found on iMac computers. Please take a moment to view my vodcast that explains the term "vodcast."

Discovery Educator Network (DEN) Florida Institute
My husband Chris (Media Specialist at Lake Asbury Elementary School) and I just returned from the Discovery Educator Network (DEN) Florida Institute. Members of DEN from all over the country met at Cape Canaveral, Florida and then set sail for the Bahamas on the Carnival Sensation. We were led by a wonderful group from Discovery Education who planned the cruise and filled it with informative group sessions and fun sightseeing excursions. Two other Clay County DEN members who attended the institute were Janet Hallstrom and Carol Papuga from Fleming Island High School.
It was nice to meet so many different educators who are avid unitedstreaming users and proficient technology users. We learned a lot about creating videos that incorporate unitedstreaming images and videos. We were divided into groups and we worked together to create our videos. On the last night of the cruise we shared them with the group.
In between our sessions, we were able to experience the food and entertainment as well as the sightseeing and shopping on a typical cruise to the Bahamas. At the bottom of this post, there is a link to a short video that highlights some of my favorites.
I really enjoyed this experience and I am glad I was able to make so many new connections with other educators who are interested in integrating technology. I hope you will check out the following link to the DEN Blog so you can find out what they are all about. Notice that once you are on the DEN homepage, there is a link to the different state DEN groups. Please take some time to check out the Florida DEN Blog. If you are interested in being a DEN member, then you can click on the link below that says "Click Here to Join the DEN (Discovery Educator Network)." If you encounter any problems, or have any questions, please either leave me a comment below, or send me an email at rpaine@mail.clay.k12.fl.us.
